In May 2010 Confluence Scotland organized a 5-day-programme for a group of 6th class pupils from Finland. Our programme consisted of language lessons, educational visits and visits to local schools. From the very first enquiries to the last good byes our wishes and needs were taken into consideration. The programme was planned with utmost care and it was well suited to the age and language skill level of 11-12 year old non-native speakers.  All aspects of our programme were planned to serve the Finnish School Curriculum.  The hands-on language lessons were versatile and supported rest of the programme extremely well. The pupils were able to put what they learned into practise immediately – and they did this with a great enthusiasm! We were also able to use the material from the classes in our follow-up studies after returning back to school. Our teachers were true professionals; they were very attentive to the children’s needs and able to “read” the situations and group dynamics in class.

The feedback from the pupils and the supervising parents was unanimous; the week in Edinburgh was an excellent language course that encouraged all participants to develop their language skills and provided the children with an assurance of their ability to manage in a foreign language. Merja Leppänen, Head teacher of Kellarpelto Primary School, Finland
